No that’s not the modest façade of 4279 22nd Street, but rather the little cottage with bamboo floors and earthen plaster walls out back for which we have a serious soft spot.

The artist/mediation cottage in the back yard is a cool idea, a nice getaway. Better than a greenhouse. I wonder if an artist/meditation ranch is in the same genre. Cost is probably similar: http://www.ranchoregon.com.
I’m seriously thinking about building such a shack for myself, maybe 15×20 or so.
From reading the listing I’m liking the main house. Modest and without the gold plating that are on so many listings. Its nice to see something in the mid-range that is neither a dump that is fodder for development or super-luxe and fishing for a super-luxe price.
These little sheds are cool, and great for gardening or an artist’s studio.
Don’t forget you need a building permit IF the roof area exceeds 100sf.
Want.
(The little house that is, haven’t even looked at the big one.)
I just read an article last week about the sheds like this that famous writers have used.
When we were househunting a couple of years ago I saw a 25 x 4 ‘cottage’ in a back yard in Crocker Amazon. Fence-to-fence and as deep as the short side of a piece of plywood.
The shed is fine, but the “timber look” on the inside is a bit clunky in places. That, and the fact that you live in a fishbowl, apparently with neighbors on all sides looking down on your when you’re in the backyard.
If I had this house it would take about 37 seconds for my kids to take over the shed as their own. What a great feature!
The sale of 4279 22nd Street closed escrow today with a reported contract price of $1,109,500 (1% over asking).
