Having effectively been on hold for a couple of years, plans to raze the former Tower Records Annex turned bike rental shop run by Sports Basement at 1196 Columbus Avenue and build a 75-room Moxy Hotel upon the North Beach site are back in play.

As designed by Stanton Architecture, the proposed four-story hotel to rise on the site includes a 2,200-square-foot bar/lounge at the corner of Jones and Bay and a 2,500-square-foot rooftop terrace (“primarily for use by hotel patrons but also to host private events”).

And while the development doesn’t include a garage, it does include parking for 12 bikes.

  1. That fuchsia trim already looks dated so I guess it will fit right in with Fisherman’s Wharf.

  2. What does “back in play” mean exactly? The site is for sale? The developers are seeking approvals? Demo permits have been issued?

    1. While permits have yet to be requested, much less approved, the project is once again moving forward.

And in fact, a Preliminary Mitigated Negative Declaration has been prepared for the project, which is a good thing if you’re the developer and means that a detailed environmental impact report (EIR) will not be required to proceed.

  3. So, according to Stanton Architecture, the sidewalks will be 20 feet wide, the windows 8 feet tall, the doors 12 feet tall, and they’ll be planting 50 foot trees in front? Or is this a hotel for LP?

  4. Needs bike parking because don’t you always take your bike with you when you travel? I mean this is a HOTEL, not an apartment complex.

  5. Please stop making bad design in the city. Look at Japan and Sidney and other cities being rebuilt. Don’t be cheap be awesome. Make history with wonderful design.
