Salesforce.com Mission Bay Parcels
While salesforce.com has been tight-lipped about designs for their Global Headquarters Complex in Mission Bay, an RFQ for design, engineering, and consulting services to support Flad Architects and Legorreta + Legorreta (the executive and design architects) seeks those with experience designing swimming pools, water features and green roofs.
The project which is envisioned to include “offices, conference space, auditoria, retail, restaurants, structured parking for approximately 1,500 cars, public spaces/parks, and other amenities common to corporate campuses” will consist of eight main buildings, several specialty buildings, and open spaces.
Total building area will be approximately 2 million square feet and designed to accommodate eight to ten thousand employees.

  1. It’s not really at the “edge” of downtown, and besides some parking of this amount is completely appropriate for that many employees.
Good project. Great for Mission Bay. Great for The City.

  2. Will Salesforce bump up against the Prop M annual limits on office construction? Or have enough years gone by without new construction that Salesforce can build its campus without the hitting the limit?

  3. ^There’s a gigantic backlog right now, so I can’t imagine that the limits will come into play. There really hasn’t been much new office construction in SF at any point in the last decade. Most of the buildings that were planned during the last boom didn’t end up being built.

  4. That is an absolutely incredible number of employees. I would imagine there will be a lot of retail/restaurant development in the near future. Good news indeed.

  5. lots of jobs indeed. currently, prop m limits allow over 3.3 msf to be built and that’s just the large cap – small cap projects have 1.2msf.

  6. The sad fact is that they house a significant proportion of those employees today without any dedicated parking at all, and it’s only because they are moving so far from downtown that they will require it. It’s not a happy employee population that was promised their vote would decide the location, only to have it thrown out when it didn’t match Marc’s expectations.

Where in Mission Bay are the small lots that retail and restaurants require, preferably clustered? I do not know of any near the Salesforce complex. There is the strip on 4th street intended to service the Berry St condos, but that is not a quick or pleasant walk from the Salesforce location.

The ground floor level of the buildings, as specified in the salesforce RFQ.
