881 Innes Throne

A few new pictures have been added to the listing for the Albion Castle at 881 Innes Avenue, including the rather literal castle’s throne. The property remains listed for $1,799,000.

UPDATE: Want your own? A plugged-in reader finds a source for the Herbeau “Dagobert” Wooden Toilet Throne.

Inspired by Dagobert, the last ruler of the 8th Century French Merovingian dynasty, this toilet will delight even the most jaded Royal. The musical chime “Le Bon Roi Dagobert” begins playing as the lid is raised. A tug on the pull chain activates the flush, accompanied by the ringing of a bell. Includes full set of accessories including candleholder and ashtray.

Priced at $10,592. And no, it’s no August fools (but perhaps a jester or two).

  1. Oh my, the juxtaposition of a 2002 subway tile and glass shower with ye olde porcelayn and wood plumbing fixtures creates a cognitive dissonance that spoils the chance of creating a proper Chamber of Excremeditation.

  3. There was a gunfight Saturday night between plainclothes SF police and thugs just two blocks away on the other side of the projects that are right next to Albion:

One wonders if they would have shot at any passers-by, as that seems to be the case here. Maybe you could run a brewery or spring water company here again if you came by boat through India Basin so you don’t have to go through the neighborhood?

  4. ^^^ That’s two blocks away and way up the hill from the Castle. And there’s no direct route from where this shooting took place to the Castle. By street it is 3X further than as the bird flys, so this is more like 6-8 blocks away.
The Castle is in an interesting little niche accessed by a main street that will be getting much busier when the shipyard is developed. It isn’t like it is embedded in the middle of housing projects, it is on the edge and not directly connected.

Its western and southern surroundings are two projects, and it’s literally bordered by a housing project, and a short distance to the northwest is another. To the east and north are waterfront.

I guess someone could buy this property in hopes that the area gets better, but it could take a while.

  6. I think that this micro-neighborhood is already far better than the HP projects. It is due to get better from a crime standpoint due to the impending increased traffic : more eyes on the street discourages crime. The flipside is that the increased traffic will also bring more pollution, noise, and traffic safety problems.
Though this little niche is markedly better than the HP projects it is not at all a walkable neighborhood. There’s almost no commercial activity within walking distance.

That is one of the biggest problems, which is why I suggest commercial use for this property.
Is it really the case that houses might be on the shipyard property by 2012? I thought most of the parcels are still being decontaminated under Superfund.

  8. Further proof that money alone doesn’t buy you good taste: “The musical chime ‘Le Bon Roi Dagobert’ begins playing as the lid is raised.”
    Seriously a musical toilet?!?

  9. A wooden-framed and wooden seated throne? Wood absorbs moisture, so what happens if, on a drunken night, you . . . miss the mark . . . slightly or when you’ve just had a tad too much fiber and . . . uh, get a lil’ “backsplash,” shall we say? How the heck does one clean that off a wooden throne? That bathroom is going to be smelling quite . . . um, “peachy” in a matter of a couple weeks. Eeeeeewwwwwww.
