“Turnberry Associates…has leased the defunct 25,000-square-foot Sound Factory nightclub at 525 Harrison St., directly next door to the One Rincon Hill sales center at 511 Harrison St. The space will be converted into a sales and marketing center for the tower Turnberry plans to start work on this summer [at 45 Lansing]. 1. As with other nearby developments, this seems to be a moving target. Last time we heard, it was to start construction this winter.

  2. Traditionally you don’t start the foundation work during the winter/wet months as heavy rains can cause a pretty big construction delay while you wait for the ground to dry out. Maybe they have found a way around that with modern construction methods and maybe it doesn’t apply as much as they are drilling pilings down to the bedrock.

  3. I went to a neighborhood association meeting a few months ago regarding the “transitional housing” shelter being proposed for the corner of Folsom and Essex…the lead speaker in the meeting told us the construction of 45 Lansing had been delayed because they excavated an old outhouse from the 19th century and they needed to bring in people to determine if it held any “historical signifigance”. I kid you not.

This is absolutely true and, in fact, I just spoke to a relative of the person who will be managing the construction project for this development and that’s exactly what he said when I asked the question about that now demolished lot. I can’t remember the name of the construction company that will be handling it, but it wasn’t Bovis or Webcor…someone can probably think of it.

  5. Cannon Construction.
I’ve see the floor plates for this building, it’s going to be very nice. Much more like a Manhattan residential highrise than we have seen here in SF so far.

  6. That gas station has got to go. Turn it into a MUNI or BART stop. Such an eyesore. And there are like 10 gas stations 5 blocks away.
