On the market for $2.925 million in 2014, reduced a few times and relisted for $2.35 million at the end of last year, the asking price for the postmodern Lucas Valley Estates home at 20 Westgate Drive has just been dropped to $2.195 million.

Designed by owner-architect James Shay and built in 1994, the 4,000-square-foot home sits on an acre of land abutting a permanent Open Space Preserve, with an indoor living/dining room that opens to a covered outdoor living room, across from which there’s a gallery-like lounge with loft.

The master suite, one of four bedrooms, opens to a private deck over the two-car garage with views.

And a detached circular library with its own driveway provides a bit more space and seclusion.

  1. Postmodern. The lack of comments speaks for itself. It was probably the most uninspired period in recent history.

  2. I actually kind of like it. I wouldn’t say it is bad. A bit bland perhaps. The location is beautiful. The price seems reasonable. Would be a nice “country” home.

  3. If you’ve been on that street, it’s not really a country home. The pictures neatly avoid angles where you would see the 5-6 other houses that are very close to this one at the end of that street. The location is beautiful, and there are great views in some directions, but you are essentially in an (albeit high end) tract development. The other houses on that street don’t have much character.

The other problem with this neighborhood is that you’re kind of isolated from services, jobs, places to eat, etc without the privacy that I at least would want as a trade off. There are places near enough to this one in Nicasio where you get privacy, too.
