Designed by Mithun|Solomon in collaboration with Kennerly Architecture, and looking even better in reality – as photographed above – than versus the renderings, 1180 Fourth will provide 150 units of affordable housing and 11,000 square feet of retail along Fourth Street in South Mission Bay, anchored by a restaurant space at the corner of Fourth and Channel.

“As a prominent gateway to Mission Bay, 1180 Fourth’s setting carries urban design obligations unusual for an affordable housing property,” said Daniel Solomon. “With a vibrant mix of street level uses, and richly articulated architecture, this building holds its own among larger, market-rate neighbors and biotech campuses. 1180 Fourth brings the city’s cosmopolitan diversity to this emerging neighborhood.”

Developed by Mercy Housing which will manage the property and provide on-site supportive services for the tenants, the $55 million development will serve low-income, very low income, and formerly homeless individuals and families.

And as of today, the development is officially complete and ready to serve.

  1. You can see the stronger design influence by Kennerly Architecture, which I’m pleased about. Solomon was and is never that good.

  2. I live just across the street and think it looks really great. I walk my dog around the entire hood on a daily basis and can say that things are really coming along nicely compared to even 2 years ago. Slowly but surely I suppose…

  3. Why the term “South Mission Bay”? I have always heard the area around UCSF referred to just as “Mission Bay”; and, if anything, this building is in the more northern part of the area that is called Mission Bay.

BTW, I do like the building.

    1. The term refers to that part of the development south of Mission Creek as opposed to North Mission Bay centered either side of Berry St north of the channel.
