Supervisor Kim has gutted her “Housing Balance” ballot initiative, turning it into a non-binding vote on public policy versus a measure which would have created major hurdles for housing developers any time the percentage of affordable housing in San Francisco’s housing pipeline dropped below 30 percent.

Assuming Kim’s proposed amendments are approved by San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors next week, Mayor Lee is expected to pull his competing “Build Housing Now” initiative from the November ballot, avoiding a costly showdown, both in terms of dollars and political clout.

As we first reported two weeks ago in a bit of foreshadowing to the compromise, “expect a big affordable housing bond initiative to soon be announced,” a move designed to unite, rather than divide, the two sides.

  1. Why doesn’t someone introduce a, ‘lets radically simplify the approval process,’ ballot initiative.

    1. No, it’s more like Kim’s initiative was completely idiotic and ass backwards. That’s why it had no chance.

  2. Jane Kim…thinks that zoning for gold mines = gold. It’s clear that her earlier attempts at housing measures were entirely generated from Aron Peskin, but this most recent attempt is a little less clear.

So glad that district elections bring us only the most parochial of issues. SF: the city that never shys away from thinking at the micro level

    1. Hey, why didn’t anyone else think of this: “gold-mine inclusionary requirements” for all new developments. Just think – we could have another Gold Rush and we’ll all become rich!

  3. Jane Kim supports squatters illegally holding properties over property owners and taxpayers, VOTE HER OUT!!

  4. Jane Kim – was so nice when she was running for office – asked me for her help and was just as sweet and seemed so in line with rational thinking –

Boy has she turned into the tool of Peskin and Daley and god low who else – VOTE OUT JANE KIM – SHE’S A DISASTER …….!!!
